Weathering the Storms
| INTRODUCTION |
|
In this country we love talking about our weather and because we have such a huge variety of weather there is so much we can talk about! You will need the PowerPoint presentation Weathering the Storms. This collective worship takes storms as its starting point, thinking about 'good' and 'bad' weather, and then goes on to look at the importance of a whole variety of weather and not getting too much or too little of any particular weather type. The second part of this collective worship uses the weather as a metaphor for our feelings and draws some parallels with the need for a variety of weather. |
| HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE |
|
This is intended to be a reflective collective worship where students can just sit and watch the whole PowerPoint, reading the statements, thinking about the questions, reflecting on their own moods, and so on. If the resource is used like this, try playing music in the background (for example: Blame it on the weatherman by B-witched).
If more discussion is appropriate, the PowerPoint could be stopped after the 12 pictures of different types of weather and students could be asked to talk in pairs saying which photo they most identify with their feelings and why. The PowerPoint could also be stopped on the slide about Jesus and in the same pairs they could discuss which storms Jesus faced, literal and metaphorical, and what emotions he displayed. These discussions could also take place at the end of the PowerPoint. To involve students more directly, they could be asked to read out the words on each slide and the prayer at the end. |
