Collective Worship Resource

Can you read me like a book?

.

>AIM

To think about:
  • whether there are 'answers' in life
  • where we can find guidance, and
  • how images can affect how people see us.

>PREPARATION

Each reflection will include children looking at some information books and features of them such as Contents / Index pages.

Create a small display of reference books, some with clear pictures on the cover, one with a 'false' cover (the dust cover from another same-sized book is ideal), one with a clear contents page, etc..

You will also need a Bible, preferably in a children's edition.

Format: Text

>THROUGHOUT THE REFLECTIONS

Using the words of the following prayer may encourage children to think about the issues raised in these reflections:

'Lord, my life is full of questions. There are questions at school, questions at home, questions when I am with others and questions when I am alone. Help me to think about the answers you have given us, and to keep trusting and searching for the answers we don't yet know. Thank you for teaching us, for caring for us and for loving us.'
Amen.

>SONGS

Songs from The Complete Come and Praise (BBC Books, ISBN 0-563-34581-0) that can be sung to encourage further reflection include:

'There are hundreds of sparrows, thousands, millions' (No. 15)
'Can you be sure that the rain will fall?' (No.31)
'The Journey of Life' (No.45)
'Would you walk by on the other side?' (No.70)
