Dream On, Dreamer

.

>Preparation

You will need:
Session 1:  A large picture of someone asleep, with room around to add thought bubbles.

Session 2:  A Bible for the references to Matthew 1:20-23 (an angel tells Joseph that Jesus will be born) and 2:12-13 (the Wise Men are warned not to go back to Herod or tell him about Jesus's birth), 19-20 & 22 (Joseph is warned in a dream to take Mary and baby Jesus to safety in Egypt - 'the flight into Egypt').

Format: Text

>Throughout the reflections

Try to provide opportunities where children can discuss and explore other stories they found from the Bible about dreams.

Dreams and 'Dream Time' are especially significant in Australian Aboriginal culture. This could be explored; it is often seen as providing an alternative view / approach when looking at stories of Creation.

>Music

To start or end reflection sessions:
Dream on Dreamer (The Brand New Heavies)
Dream a little dream (Mama Cass - The Mamas and Papas)
Dreamer (Supertramp)

Songs for children to sing, all from The Complete Come and Praise (BBC Educational Publishing):
No.59 'I will bring to you the best gift I can offer'
No.63 'Spirit of God, as strong as the wind'
No.89 'Guess how I feel'

>Prayer

The following prayer may be helpful to use in association with these reflections:

'Give me hope, Lord, to follow my dreams.
Give me strength, Father, to include you in my dreams.
Give me openness, dear God, to hear your teaching, and to live my life in a way that pleases you.
Amen.'
