Listening

>Aim

To use the theme of listening as a focus for children to develop their own listening skills and to reflect on the importance of listening to each, themselves and the natural world.



>Preparation

You will need:
Session 1:  A large sea shell - a display of shells (optional); quiet music; hymn/song 'I listen' (No.60 in Come and Praise, BBC Education).

Session 2:  Facility to play some quiet music; a candle to light; bell or other sound to be used as start and stop signal; hymn/song 'I listen'.

Session 3:  A candle; an appropriate version of the Bible story 'Stilling the Storm' (Mark's Gospel Chapter 4), e.g. in the Lion Children's Bible; hymn/song 'Give me Oil in my Lamp' (No.43 in Come and Praise).

Session 4:  Focus for outdoor collective worship; a large twig or branch placed upright in a container; individual clipboards with paper and pencil; song / hymn 'He's got the Whole World' (No.19 in Come and Praise).
